The Member of Parliament for Efutu in the Central region Alexander Afenyo Markin was born on May 27 1978 at Winneba in the Central region of Ghana.
He belongs to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and represents the minority in parliament. The politician doubles as a Lawyer and a security expert. He pulled 19,062 votes out of the 26,764 valid votes cast representing 51.85% to emerge the winner.
He attained his MA (International Politics and Security), University of Bradford in UK,2010 and from 2006 -2009 he acquired his LLB (Buckingham University, London, UK, 2006- 2009.
The Lawyer in 2015, made a potentially controversial call for the immediate withdrawal of thousands of certificates issued by the University of Education Winneba since 2013. He argues that such certificates and degrees have been vicariously invalidated by the fact that an illegal University Council, as he puts it, caused them to be issued without proper legal authority.
He also asked for an immediate refund of all public funds paid to the members of the Council as employment benefits after their tenure expired in 2013.
Mr. Afenyo Markin has revealed that he is a member of the fraternal society, Freemasons “I am a mason and I have not been sanctioned by the Catholic Church. Freemasonry is a fraternal society that believes in God Almighty and follows certain principles that guide a man’s life and it does not run counter with my believes as a catholic. President Kufuor is a mason and a catholic,” he reveals.
Alexander last worked as the CEO, Excel Courier Ghana Limited, Accra.
He is married, a Christian and worships with the Catholic church of Ghana.
