The campaign to unite and rebuild the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hit the national capital, Accra, on Thursday, September 21, 2017.

The second edition of the Unity Walk forms part of the strategies by the party to re-organise grassroots support to position the NDC as the obvious political party going into the 2020 general elections.

The Unity Walk in Accra is themed: "Mobilisation of the grassroots; a shared responsibility".

It comes on the heels of a successful one held earlier in the month in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale which was patronised by leading figures of the party including the former president, John Dramani Mahama.

Party faithful are expected to converge at the Nima Roundabout for the walk which will be led by Regional and National Executives of the party and end at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange where they will be addressed by their leaders. Former Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and the key architect of the NDC Unity Project, Kojo Bonsu noted that the NDC can only win the next elections if it engages it brings onboard its followers in the decision-making process.

This will make them feel a sense of belonging to the NDC which is the party that’s on the side of the people of Ghana, Kojo Bonsu reiterated.

“Since our defeat, we have witnessed division and bitter arguments about what went wrong and whom to blame. I understand why people are angry. But the tone of the argument has, at times, been unattractive, counterproductive and even alarming,” he observed.

He explained: “…divided political parties do not win elections so, we must again be united.”

“Nonetheless, we must confront, understand and deal with the reality of our defeat,” he acknowledged.
