Black Star B squad jubilating after winning the 2017 WAFU Tournament |
However, after receiving the prize money from the organisers, it emerged the Black Stars B players will be getting $3,000 each. In my estimation, I think the players deserve better than that amount. The main Black Stars team wouldn’t have received that amount if they had won a cup. Let us be fair; let’s give everyone a preferential treatment.
If the Black Stars B team received $100, 000 for winning the WAFU Cup of Nations, We have (18 players X $3,000 = $54,000 + 7 technical team X $6,000 = $42,000) . The technical team is made up of two coaches, team doctor, masseur, team manager, goalkeepers trainer). The technical team are getting that amount because it is automatic that they get double of what a player gets. Nevertheless, when you add the money of the players and the technical team, you will get $96, 000 . There will still be extra $4,000 which is equivalent to GH¢16, 800 left to feed on. Why not share it for the players?
I find it really difficult to understand government with regards to paying better winning bonus to our local stars who died for the nation. Why this attitude?
Let me clearly state this, Our government should not think they are frustrating any person because the football world would never forgive them for the treatment they are dishing out to the players.
Germany pay better winning bonuses to their national teams. We hear our politicians giving silly excuses by saying the economy is financially unsound. Lies!
Go to the Ministry of Gender, Social Protection and Children and find out the number top government officials who travel weekly or monthly on official duties and the per diem they get.
We have everything a country need to develop yet we are struggling; they are stealing our money and they are economics what? Let’s end it here.
Back to the issue, People die for the country. We have Engineers, Doctors saving lives day and night. Are they not paid better? Is there any patriotic job than that?
If it is just about football then why don’t we go to Mamprobi, Achimota and call people to play for the country?
Remember, Football is a job; it no more a passion so let give our gallant stars what they deserve. It is a full time job which changes millions of people.
So let’s be passionate about this bonus issue. If government won’t pay the players better then tell them. Black Stars did not suddenly become like this. We can choose to go back to where we started! Fair enough.
The Black Stars B visited President Akufo-Addo at the flagstaff House to present the WAFU Cup of Nations trophy they last lifted in 2013.
