National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, has accused the NPP government of giving jobs to girlfriends of some big men.

Speaking to Paul Adom -Otchere on Metro TV’s “Good Evening Ghana” Thursday, the communication specialist said the Akufo-Addo government is guilty of cronyism adding, “We now have a family and friends and girlfriends government”.

When pressed further by the host to provide evidence to back the ‘girlfriends’ allegation, Spio-Garbrah pointed to pro-NDC newspaper, “The Ghana Palaver” as his source of information.

“The Palaver has been publishing stories about girlfriends being offered jobs,” he maintained.

“… but the Ghana Palaver is skewed”, Adom-Otchere pointed out.   The NDC guru who confirmed his interest in the party’s presidential race on the programme lashed out at the government for doing little to curb vigilantism, which has become rife in the last ten months of the current administration.

According to him, as a respected lawyer who championed the course of human rights, President Akufo-Addo should be the first person to resist violence and anarchy in the country.

He said the international community is very worried about the show of bravado by some vigilante groups, notably the “Delta Force” and the general security situation.

Touching on his presidential ambition, the former Trade Minister rejected the assertion that, he has no constituency or base in the NDC, which might affect his presidential ambition.

Spio-Garbrah  who was  Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States under  the Rawlings regime , explained that there are various interest groups  like chiefs, religious groups, youth, women  groups, businessmen among others, who   may share his ideas and vote for him at the party’s congress, insisting that these groups could also form his base.

He also said women form part of his constituency since he gets along with them. “I get along with women, I have 8 sisters you know,” the former Education Minister told Adom-Otchere.
