Renewed destruction of farms by nomadic herdsmen in the Eastern Region has prompted calls for the revival of the Operation Cow Leg taskforce.
There have also been renewed clashes between the farmers whose farms are destroyed and the herdsmen.
The task force was formed to deal with nomadic herdsmen who entered the Eastern Region illegally with their herds of cattle, and sheep destroying farms, however, it was suspended in 2016.
Eastern Region Minister, Eric Kwakye Daffuor, has revealed the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) proposed the revival of the Operation Cow Leg agenda to deal with the renewed problem.
He revealed that the proposal was put forth after a meeting on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
“The council is of the opinion that funds will be made available for the Operation Cow Leg to be revived… A lot could be achieved,” he said. Meanwhile, the revival of the task force will depend on approval by National Security.
