The National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), Dr. Kwame Adu-Nsiah, has dismissed pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) Burma Camp Youth group’s widespread misconception that selection of district Coordinators for the Northern Region was skewed.

The group locked up the Northern Regional Secretariat of the GSFP for one week, and accused Children and Social Protection Minister, Otiko Afisah Djaba, of manipulating the selection of Coordinators and allocation of schools to her selected caterers.

But the GSFP National Coordinator, Dr. Kwame Adu-Nsiah at a news conference in Tamale rubbished the allegations.

“The current zonal coordinators applied for the positions and were not handpicked by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection as falsely claimed by some sections of the general public.”

According to him, the mode of selection of coordinators and caterers for the region was devoid of political and tribal considerations.

“I urge Ghanaians to eschew tribal sentiments in the implementation of the GSFP which have the tendency of creating divisions among us as one people.”

He condemned calculated attempts to sabotage the GSFP’s smooth implementation in the region with a huge malnourished children population.

He maintained that the mode of selection of coordinators and allocation of schools to caterers was on the basis of merit.

“We have two Dagombas, two Gonjas, one person from Bunkprugu-Yunyoo, one from Bimbilla and one from Kpandai. They were employed based on their qualifications.”

He also refuted claims of that his outfit is seeking to undermine the authority of the GSFP Northern Regional Coordinator, Madam Felicia Konaah Tetteh, who was conspicuously missing at the news conference.

“We have not undermined any regional Coordinator. There is no bad blood between us and the Regional Coordinator.”

Dr. Kwame Adu-Nsiah revealed that, two of the zonal Coordinators were also wrongfully engaged as caterers on performance contract.

“We did our checks and found out that some zonal coordinators were also caterers and the Secretariat asked them to resign from their positions and be caterers or remain and relinquish the catering job. And so they relinquished the catering job. So that issue has been addressed.”

It would be recalled that the governing NPP affiliated youth group calling itself Burma Camp Youth, locked up the Northern Regional secretariat of the Ghana School Feeding Programme.

They vowed not to unlock the offices until their concerns were addressed but later rescinded their decision, but no arrests were made by the police.
