Trending GH: Ghanaians kick against legalization of homosexuality

Ghanaians have expressed their disappointment in President Akufo-Addo’s comments that there is a likelihood that homosexuality would be legalized in Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo, in an interview with Aljazeera, asserted that the presence of a pressure group would compel the government to legalize the act though it is of no significance to Ghanaians

The gay community in the country has made known intentions to embark on a ‘peace walk’ to show appreciation to the president.

Sharing their opinions with www.ghanaweb.com, some Ghanaians argued that the president should have expressed his resentment towards the act. They were of the view that being the leader of a nation as religious as Ghana, President Akufo-Addo’s attempt at ‘playing safe’ was in the wrong light.

Speaking on the issue, former Commissioner on the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr Emile Short, said that there was no difference between the comments made by President Akufo-Addo and former president Mahama.

A Deputy Communications officer during former President John Mahama-led administration, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo must apologize to Ghanaians for the statement.
