Martin Amidu has been nominated by President Akufo-Addo as the Special Prosecutor
There have been calls from a section of the public for President Akufo Addo to also consider Sports as one of the key areas to be scrutinised by the Special Prosecutor.

Notably among them is ace-sports journalist Daniel Kwaku Yeboah of Peace FM who is pleading with President Nana Akufo-Addo to also consider sports as part of the areas to be scrutinised by the Special Prosecutor.

According to Dan Kwaku Yeboah, sports in the country have seen so many financial embezzlement and corruption from officials and there are facts available that can bring these officials to book.

Speaking about the issue on Peace FM mid-day news, he said, “I first congratulate the President for the appointment of the Special Prosecutor. We hope the Special Prosecutor will not only deal with politicians and government officials but should also consider the sports fraternity”.

In addition, he stated that there are facts available that can be investigated by the special prosecutor such as the Dzamefe Commission set up after Ghana’s abysmal performance in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

“The Dzamefe Commission set up during the 2014 Brazil fiasco has facts that can be used by the Special Prosecutor on the Ghana Football Association and not only on football but also the other sporting disciplines.

“The last Commonwealth Games saw government spend over $3million on the games despite sponsorship from the organisers for accommodation and many others and this has to be investigated, he added.

In addition Jonathan Abbey Pobee on Otec FM stated that the Special Prosecutor’s job should start from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The President Nana Addo Danqauh Akufo-Addo last week appointed Martin Amidu as the first special prosecutor of the country subject to parliamentary approval.
