Mr Amidu was nominated by President Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 11. A move which has been hailed for being all inclusive as he is known to be a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

But according to former Deputy Minister of Energy and Member of Parliament (MP) for Yapei Kusawgu John Jinapor has renounced his NDC membership.

Mr Amidu, a former Interior Minister and Attorney General under the late President John Atta Mills, has been known to be a longstanding member of the NDC. He, indeed, is a founding member of the party and served as Deputy Attorney General under the J.J. Rawlings government for eight years and was the running mate of Professor Mills in the 2000 elections.

Though he fell out with his own government and was reportedly ousted as an Attorney General in 2012, he has always known to be a dire in the wool NDC person. But speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Mr Jinapor stated he knows for a fact that Mr Amidu was not a member of the party anymore.

According to him, his checks with the party's national organiser, Kofi Adams confirms Mr Amidu himself does not hold himself as a member of the party.

"Kofi Adams told me that when he [Amidu] was invited by the party's disciplinary committee over negative comments he made about [then] President Mahama, he refused to come saying he is no more a member of the party",he disclosed.

Mr Jinapor admonished Mr Amidu that he should work independently as possible if his appointment is approved by parliament.
