A total of 130 suspects were arrested |
The police arrested a total of 130 suspects in Kasoa over the weekend but after the screening, 85 were put before the court with various offences including possession of Indian hemp.
The police pleaded with the court to remand the suspects to allow them to investigate further.
The court presided over by His Lordship Ebenezer Osei Darko remanded them to re-appear on May 14, 2018.
Among the 130 suspects arrested in the swoop at the Buduburam area of the Central Region on Sunday was one woman.
The police retrieved quantities of dried-wrapped leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, tramadol, scissors, boxes of cigarettes, mobile phones, a laptop and a parcel of a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine from the suspects.
The operation dubbed "Flush out the Criminals” is to help reduce crime in the area.
According to the Kasoa Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr David Agyem Agyemang, three notorious criminals on the police wanted list were picked up among the suspects.
He said some of the suspects were caught smoking dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
“We would continue to profile the rest and prosecute all those found to have breached the law”, he said.
He said providing effective policing to maintain law and order was a collective responsibility and urged the public not to shield suspected criminals but volunteer information that could lead to their arrest and prosecution.
