President Akufo-Addo addressing the gathering |
Delivering his speech at the graduation ceremony of new army personnel on Friday, October 19, 2018, President Akufo-Addo stated that the provision of the infrastructure for the military academy would be a legacy his administration would consign to the Ghana Armed Forces.
“Plans have been put in place for the building of new state of the art infrastructure to meet the requirements of a 21st-century training institution. This is a legacy I would want to bequeath to the Ghana Armed Forces,” President Akufo-Addo said.
He also disclosed that the Minister for Defense, Dominic Nitiwul has been instructed to enclose unprotected areas within the academy, in order to fend off encroachers.
“I have been reliably informed and you can all attest to this, that the local training area for the officer cadet has been encroached. That is why I have directed the Minister of Defence to take steps to wall off the remaining lands,” President Akufo-Addo added.
Lauding the armed forces for ensuring that Ghana achieves an enviable status as the ‘standard bearer and beacon of democratic governance on the African continent’, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the role of peace and stability in promoting economic growth in the country.
“Our nation has become the standard bearer and beacon of democratic governance on the African continent, receiving worldwide acclaim for its progress. We cannot achieve the growth in our economy that will provide the Ghanaian people with a dignified standard of living without peace and stability,” he said.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commissioned 138 newly passed out officers of the Ghana Armed Forces on Friday at the Military Academy. He admonished the new officers not to abuse their uniforms and not avoid intimidating civilians.
