A former political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has described the conduct of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) in relation to government’s intervention in the ongoing standoff between students and management as irresponsible.

According to Dr Richard Amoako Baah, he expects the association to be more decorous in their utterances on the issues and not be making unnecessary demands.

“I think UTAG is being irresponsible; I expect them to intervene and preach peace instead of making unnecessary comments on the issue,” he said on Accra based Okay FM monitored by Adomonline.com.

UTAG have expressed their dissatisfaction over government’s decision to dissolve the KNUST Governing Council.

The government issued a statement on Thursday dissolving the current Council due to the impasse on campus.

UTAG has made it clear that they do not accept the government’s decision to form an interim Council and if the government fails to overturn its decision, they would advise themselves with immediate effect.

Dr. Amoako Baah believes UTAG’s warning is below the belt and should not be entertained.

He asked UTAG members to rather use their positions to fight for the wellbeing of the students to find lasting solutions to the longstanding problem.
