NPP elects regional executives in North East, Western North

A businessman, Mr Nuhu Fuseini, has been elected as the Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the North East Region.

He thus becomes the first ever regional chairman of the NPP in the North East Region.

Mr Fuseini pulled 49 valid votes out of the 102 total valid votes cast to beat his close contender Akamara Henry Bawa who had 27 votes.

Mr Fuseini who was so elated about his victory commended the delegates for giving him the mandate to lead the party in the new region.

He pledged to work hard to improve the fortunes of the NPP in the next year general elections.

Mr Fuseini, however, called on all to support his team as they resolved to work for victory of the party.

The positions contested for included the first vice which went to Mr Ibrahim Gado who obtained 72 votes.

Alhaji Abraham Garibah emerged the second Vice Chairman as he pulled 51 votes.

There was, however, a tie for the position of Regional Organiser as Mr Mahama Jongdow Sulemana and Mr Amos Yambil secured 40 votes each.

National leadership of the party together with executives had decided to take a decision on that position in the coming.

Mr Yamusah Ibrahim won the deputy regional Secretary as he pulled 51 votes while Hajia Rashida Mahama won the position of Regional Women’s Organiser with 48 votes.

The positions of Regional Treasurer and Regional Youth Organiser went to Sumani Mustapha and Mumuni Mohammed Nurudeen who had 64 and 34 votes respectively.

The position of Regional Nasara Coordinator went to Ahmed Sadat who obtained 62 votes.

The NPP General Secretary, Mr John Boadu, who witnessed the elections commended the delegates and the party supporters the peace manner they conducted themselves the period.

He challenged the new executives to work hard and secure victory for the party in the region.

Mr Boadu assured them of the national executives’ readiness to support them with the necessary logistics to enable them to deliver on their mandate.

Meanwhile, Clement Adzei Boye reports that similar elections for executive positions in the Western North Region sprang shocks and surprises as big guns lost in the contest, which was held at the Catholic Pastoral Centre at Sefwi Wiawso at the weekend.

Lawyer Kwasi Blay, a former Deputy Western Regional Minister got 38 votes, losing to his main challenger, Benjamin William Assuah, a member of the Council of Elders of NPP in the Western North, who bagged 63 votes to become the new chairman for the party in the new region.

Benjamin Armah, also a political stalwart and a former District Chief Executive for Juaboso-Bia and later, Bia West, got 55 votes.

In the race for Regional Organiser, Samuel Adu Agyei, a former Communications Officer, whooped 73 votes while Patrick Boadu got nine, Anthony Amankwaa, 16, George Kyere, 24, Frederick Tuffour, three, and Victor Gaisie 27 votes respectively.

Eric Theophilus Tandoh received 73 votes to win the first Vice Chairperson position while Ernest Adasa Nkrumah swept 102 votes to beat Kounes Baidoo who got 53 votes, for the second Vice Chairperson’s position.

For the Secretary, Samuel Kofi Abiaw got 82 votes, Felix Foster Ackah, 70 votes, Bortey Plahar one, while John Amo Kyere got 77 losing to Gifty Adu Ankamah, who got 78 votes to clinch the treasurer position.

In youth organiser front, Tweneboah Afriyie Kwasi got 47, Gabriel Doh, 48, Kwabena Amankwaa Asiedu, 11 and Solomon Mensah.

Alhassan Rahman 60, Fuseini Sekunde 56 and Awudu Mumuni 38, in the Nasara contest.

The new Regional Organiser, Samuel Adu Agyei, spoke about the vigourous campaign elections in the Western North, adding that “it has been peaceful and orderly.”
