Residents of Kete Krachi in the Oti Region are worried about the state of their town roads and are therefore urging the government to fix them.
The main town roads at Kete Krachi, the capital of the Krachi West District, in the Oti Region are in bad states.
It is in a deplorable state and has become a source of worry for the residents.
Kete Krachi town roads had a major facelift under President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Nothing happened again until four years ago, when the town was lucky to get some of its roads tarred.
However, the main town roads tarred during President Kufuor’s tenure are in a worse state.
Big gullies have been created in some portions by rains making it inaccessible.
Drivers, motorbikes and tricycle riders who use the roads have to move at a snail pace to avoid collision with other vehicles.
The Krachi District Hospital Junction to the Prisons road is one of the worse areas to ply. |
According to the residents, the state of the road does not befit the status of the town as one of the oldest district capitals in the Oti Region.
Vice President of the Krachi Youth Association for Kumasi, Jonah Attah, in an interview with Vipi News, said the state of the roads is worrying.
“Krachi happens to be the mother of most of the districts in the Oti Enclave and this is the kind of road you can see for yourself. The situation has increased the cost of maintenance for vehicle owners here. I called on government to come and assist us. There should come and see it first hand and take a decision on it, this is our appeal to government,” Mr. Attah noted.
The Assembly Member for Kantankofori Electoral, Francis Odenke Ntem, also urged government to act swiftly in reconstructing the roads.
“All our roads have been neglected. We are, therefore, calling on government to as a matter of urgency tar the road for us,” Mr. Ntem appeals.
Some of the youth who spoke to Vipi News on condition of anonymity for fear of victimization said they have given themselves up to December 2019 and if nothing is done about the roads they would demonstrate against government.
