The suspected robber was killed by police officials during a shoot-out |
The gang of four suspected robbers were said to have attacked the lotto agent and workers in his office and made away with 4 iphones and unspecified amount of money.
Police picked information and traced the robbers to their hideout where they purportedly engaged the law enforcers in a shootout, leading to the killing of the yet-to-be-identified suspected robber.
His body has been deposited at the Police Hospital in Accra pending autopsy.
Briefing journalists at Tema yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Nana Hinneh Asomah, explained that on May 7, 2018, at about 1:00 pm, a lotto operator rushed to the regional police to complain of a robbery attack in his office.
According to him, police intelligence led to the location of the attackers at Golf City where they were seeking refuge.
“On seeing the police, one of the four men opened fire. The police, sensing danger, responded immediately by returning fire and in the process the gunman was hit,” he stated.
DCOP Asomah said three members of the gang managed to escape in the process.
The regional commander posited that the police, after the incident, retrieved one pistol with 32 rounds of ammunition, a revolver with five rounds of ammunition, three iPhones and one iPad believed to have been seized from their victims.
“The wounded suspect, whose identity was not immediately known, was rushed to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
He stated that the police had mounted a manhunt for the three other suspects.
